In days of olde, it was a warrior’s duty to defend the honor of the one who’s token he bore. It was the consort’s duty to support and inspire her champion. That was especially true in the Grand Tournaments of the 14th century. Come join us for a day of competitions and tournaments leading up to the final battle to determine the best of the best and the Queen of Love and Beauty.

There will be elaborate pageantry before a gathering of distinguished lords and ladies with contests in Heavy combat, Rapier Combat, Arts & Sciences, Youth Combat, Live Weapons, footraces and bowling. Fighters bring your list shield.

Competitors will be a team of one combatant and one consort. They will earn points for participation or sponsorship in each activity. At the end of the day, the top 16 competitors will be allowed to enter the final tournament.

In honor of Grey Niche's newest Baron and Baroness, and their elegant representation of the Middle Eastern personnae and arts, Al Mahala sponsors a contest of Muru'ah at Beltaine. The origin of European chivalry is in the Arabic concept of Muru'ah, or ethics of manly virtue. Far from brutishness and bragging, muru'ah was proven through grace and restraint, loyalty to obligation and duty, a devotion to do that which must be done, and a respect for women.

    Gulf Wars

Wednesday, March 26, 2008, 11:03 AM CST [General]

Gulf Wars, wow what a blast and for myself and my companions a much need VACATION! I had a week without and all of my 7 rugrats, and boy did I need it. LOL...I saw many friends that I hadn't seen in awhile and that I love dearly and a few that I see more often but love to see none the less. "Friends" You know who you are. This year at gulf wars I volunteered my time and split my attention between two households. Shadow Legion & Martian Fayne. WHOOP! I spent my time in the heralds tent , doind a few heradlic activities...I spent my time water bearing to the wonderful fighters of the known world! And b/c of it I now have OJR added to my SCA name. (Order of the Jeweled Ring) Bestowed by Uther & Kenna their royal majesties. I also spent a lot of my time with a most wonderful lady who in my eyes is quite a bubbly pixie and fun to be around who has a most amazing voice. Mrs. Alina Nic An Bhaird. (Hope I spelled that right ) I became her minion for two days helping paint and file and take note and be there as a friend as the wonderful new STAGE for the Entertainers to use right next to the Gleann Ahbann Bardic College. (SHOW SUPPORT JOIN THE COLLEGE!!!) Where we took witness of the very first War Bard Competition where many a bard came and competed. Including the wonderous Lady Yliria with her original war song she wrote herself. Merchants row was bigger than ever and a grand thing. Odessy Coffee made many people happy including a very pregnant friend of mine who'd been wanting one for 3 years now lol. And pregnancy cravings were driving! She is now sated on that part. The Falcons were chipper and talkative as per usual and the food aromas filled the air. The drumming could be heard through out as war marched on and at night when the SCA night life came to pass. WARRIORS from near and far came to fight and bang up armour they had just bought or fixed; and next year I may be one of them out their fighting if all pans out correctly. And then there are the parties. Fayne had a new Monday night party that I attended served food on silver platters and had my clothes fall off ( THANK YOU BLUE FOR REDRESSING ME!!!!) and on again. HAd some mighty fine Hooka talk with a good friend and some amazing scnets coming from Fayne that night. And some nice Rose Oil....Ahhhhh...Anyways back to the story... I witnessed a scotch competition one evening that was started by the throwing of the gauntlet in the Green Dragon on evening. I mingled through out the streets and met many new people, as the newbies were astounding this year! The Legion parties were amazing as per usual. Henna was beautiful and people were happy. I also got to go a few rounds with the shenia (can't spell it) that left me with a few new bruises on my thighs lol. I was Red Riding Hood for the Known World Party and still have a million beads! LOL Thanks again blue for the cloak! Watching the dancers and the jugglers and the fire dancers was awesome! The Seven Deadly Sins Party was fun as per usual and we even saw some Furries this event. LMAO.  All in all Gulf Wars as per usual was a blast!
